it is not essential as there are excellent local communications

resorts of Feungorolla, Marbella and Porta Banus to the West.
At the nearby tourist centre on the seafront, you can find everything you need
to know about the area and book many excursions to places of interest such as
Ronda, Seville, Granada, Mijas and Gibraltar, excellent value if you prefer not
to drive. |

Benalmadena is
made up of three different villages - in the hills is Benalmadena
Pueblo only a 10 minute drive
from the apartment.
A typical Andalucian village set in the mountains with whitewashed
houses and flowers covering the balconies in the narrow streets. Park
your car and take the lift up to the pretty local church and the
walled gardens, where you can admire the views down to the
coast from this great height. Then amble down to the cobbled streets
and village square with plenty of shops and restaurants where you
can sit under orange trees and have a meal, a snack or a drink
at one of the cafes.

| Closer to the coast is Arroyo
de la Miel,
a 5 minute drive from the apartment. Small but modern, this fashionable
town houses a wide variety of shops and a good choice of restaurants.
There is a railway station linking to the rest of the costa including
Malaga. The Tivoli World amusement park also hosts a small table
top market on Sunday mornings. On Fridays there is a huge open market
in the Tivoli car park. Adjacent is the new Telecabina cable car
ride which takes passengers on a spectacular journey 750m above sea
level to Monte Calamorro where, on a clear day, you can see the Atlas
mountains in North Africa. |
| |
| One of the highlights of Benalmadena
Costa are the
beaches stretching for 10 km. The closest is the Playa Arroyo de
la Miel, a 15 minute walk from the apartment. 2km further along the
promenade is the beautiful Marina (Puerto) with 1000 moorings and
what many authorities have claimed to be the best marina in the world.
It has a new shopping centre with 200 shops, bars and restaurants
and also a shipyard, sailing, diving, nautical schools and a Sea
Life Centre aquarium. |

Fuengirola
Zoo: Fortunately, zoos aren't what they used to be.
At Fuengirola's new, visitor and animal-friendly zoo you wander
through a simulated tropical forest, lush with vegetation, rivers
and waterfalls. You will see crocodiles basking on the sandy
shores of the Nile, Sumatra tigers bathing besides Angkor Wat,
lemurs playing around an ancient Baobab tree and, if you're brave,
bats flitting around abandoned mines. There is a "Claro
de Selva", where you can see birds and mammals living in
their own natural habitat.
Perhaps the greatest innovation, though, is the "moonlight visit".
Throughout July and August the zoo stays open until 1.00 am allowing visitors
to observe the more nocturnally-active species, such as leopards, flying foxes
and porcupines. The forest paths are lit with artificial moonlight and the air
filled with a piped forest soundtrack, all adding to the Disney-theme park feel
to the place. Finally, you can round off your twilight or midnight jungle trip
by enjoying a meal in one of the zoo's themed restaurants. |
